Well, that was good. I think.

Well, Greg's birthday dinner was quite a success. I think. I made lobster, and I hate lobster, so I to take everyone else's word for it, but apparently it was good.

It was actually a fun day of prepping; I decided to make the lobster ala Thomas Keller of the French Laundry, which involves steeping it in boiling water briefly so you can remove the meat from the shells; then poaching it in a beurre monte. Sounds fancy, yah? That's just a fancy way of saying 'butter'. Lobster poached in emulsified butter… how can that be bad?

So we spent the morning shelling 6 lobsters. The girls even helped, and they were quite handy at getting the tiny pieces of meat out of the claws; so it was a fun family activity. Greg did help, too, and a good thing, because it turns out that I am squeamish.
