Today, I made sauce- a good old fashioned italian meat sauce, the kind that takes all day to make. For my meatballs, I tried something different: in addition to pork, veal, and beef, we used venison. Venison from the deer (plural!) that our friend shot down this past winter in our back yard. (He is a bow hunter, no noisy guns or wild bullets).
We met this guy because he owns the nursery where we've been going to buy plants each spring for the past several years. Now he hunts our deer, and gives us a discount on all our plants.
Today, I was planting some geraniums near my greenhouse, and I noticed that the deer have been eating all my plants.
He gives us flowers. We plant flowers. Deer eat flowers. He hunts the deer. We eat deer. He gives us more flowers...
...it is just too bad that my beautiful flowers have to suffer.
(And the meatballs were good. As proof I offer up the following information: Cosette ate four, Juliette ate one, and Aliza ate one and a half.)
