Career vs child

Career: studied for 21 years, 52 weeks/year, 5 days/week (not including weekends) 9 hours/day = 49,140 hours of preparation.

Child: 40 weeks, 7 days/ week, 24 hours/day or 6,720 hours of gestation.

Conclusion: Clearly unprepared for the child, especially given that I am still not considered ready to embark on independent research, and yet I don't have anyone looking over my shoulder telling me I really am not ready for motherhood.

Further: I have many many textbooks and instruction manuals utilized while studying for my career; but the instruction manuals available for study in preparation for arrival of child are few in number, full of controversy, and clearly inadequate.

Child does not come with disclaimer, which would state: along with the weight of responsibility will come a shift in priorities such that the new order of things will be:

1. child

2. sleep

3. husband*

4. house**

5. self/ mental & physical well being

6. career***

7. dog
* note husband will think that you put him last but he is really just a big child so actually comes first along with the other, smaller, children.
** child and husband also use the house, therefore it must be maintained in a somewhat clean and organized manner.

***since you actually keep the career in order to maintain your mental well being, but keeping the career means you have no time to focus on your physical well being, it will result in a net zero on #5 if put ahead of self, and therefore must come last. Except for the dog. Poor Lucy.
