D is for Dog.

We were reading "Spot goes to school" in which Spot spells out a word with blocks.
"Juliette, do you know what word that is?"

"No, What?"

"Let's sound it out. Dee... ohhh... gee. Deohge. Dohge. D.."

"Dog!"

"Yes, that's right!"

"Dee-ohh-gee dog!"

Later, Spot spelled out another word. Again, we sounded it out.

J: "Ess... beee. Is that a b, mommy?"

Me: "No. That is a p."

J: "P... ohhh. teee. S... pee... ohh.. tee..."

I am excited; I sense an epiphany. Juliette is about to learn how to sound out words! Next step... reading! Hah, she'll be right up there at the top of her class!

J: "Es Pe Oh Te.... Dog!"

Oh well. We'll keep working on it.

It's good that you are even introducing her to the idea that she can sound out words like that and figure out what they say.... Juliette is such a smart cookie that she'll catch on super fast and be reading before you know it! :)
